The Big Bend Amateur Radio Club is based in Alpine, Texas and covers the entire Big Bend area of West Texas. The club is open to anyone interested in amateur radio activities.  Join us at our monthly meeting or on the air via one of our weekly nets.  Contact us by email.

Donations to club can be made through our PayPal page.  Visitors to the Big Bend should try the 2m repeaters and participate in our 2m net.  The repeaters also have EchoLink  and AllStar access. 

Winter Field Day

Winter Field Day will be held from 10:00AM on Saturday, January 25 through 3:59PM on Sunday, January 26 2025.  You may work 24 hours out of the 30.

Rules are as follows:    

USE YOUR OWN CALLSIGN       

No operating on repeaters but 146.520 simplex is OK              

100w max – no operating on 12, 17, 30 or 60 meters                    

No FT4 or FT8  all other digital modes are fine including Winlink P2P or RMS – no Telnet                                                  

Categories are (H)ome, (I)ndoor, (O)utdoor, (M)obile                

Classification is how many simultaneous transmitters (1,2,3,4)                  

Location is WTX for West Texas Section

Exchange will be    Callsign, Category, Classification, Location

             example         KG5DRT  H  1  WTX

Objectives are multipliers this year:

Alternate Power (including laptop if used for digital modes / but not if used only to log  (1 point)                                                        

Away from Home (3 points)                                                            

Multiple (new) antennas (1 point) – if placed for WFD (not your regular antenna farm)                                                                      

FM Satellite contact (2 points)  SSB/CW Satellite contact (1 point) Copy WFD bulletin (1 point)                                                            

Operate on 6 bands (6 points)                                                        

Operate multiple modes (2 points)                                                  

Operate QRP (5w or less) (4 points)                                              

Operate 6 continuous hours (2 points)

All Popular Logging software will have a template for WFD (N1MM+, N3FJP, RumLogNG, etc)

Email your Cabrillo log to KG5DRT for submission

New Meeting Location 

BBARC meetings and exams have moved to a new venue and time.

  The new time is 7:00PM for meetings and 6:00PM for exams.  The new venue is the Masons Building on Highway 118 towards Fort Davis on the north side of Alpine (2300 Highway 118 North).  Here is a map and picture of the building.
