WinLink Practice Opportunities

Here are some ways you can sharpen your Winlink skills.
Prepare a message according to that week’s instructions and send it
by whatever method is available. The WTX Section supports P2P but
only at certain times of the day. For other times and other areas,
select any station in the VARA HF list by double clicking it and send
when the frequency is clear. If you can’t connect, try another.
All three will accept “TELNET Winlink” messages as well.

Be sure to mark your message according to the method you want to
use (“Winlink”, “Radio Only” or “P2P”) BEFORE posting it in your Outbox.
Your VARA send method must match or it won’t send.
If you connect, but nothing is sent, check that both match.
Go back, edit and resave the message to your Outbox, then try again.

If you choose “P2P” you must send it to that station, no other
RMS HF or CMS station will accept it. To forward to another station,
use “VARA HF Winlink” or “Radio Only”. If you mark it “VARA HF Winlink”,
the receiving station may forward it over the internet to the destination.
“Radio Only” means don’t use the internet. Some RMS HF stations won’t
allow “Radio Only” – check Winlink.org ==> Tools ==> Map and select
the station to see parameters and restrictions for VARA HF first.

All three will add you to their Winlink email list and send the
following week’s info to you so you don’t have to look it up again.
